Meet Dr. Natalie King
RESEARCHER. SCIENCE EDUCATOR.
COMMUNITY ACTIVIST
Natalie S. King, PhD is a three-time graduate of the University of Florida and Assistant Professor of Science Education in the Department of Middle and Secondary Education at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Her research focuses on advancing Black girls in STEM education, community-based informal STEM programs, and the role of curriculum in fostering equity in science teaching and learning.
Mr. Peterson,
Principal of Caring & Sharing Learning School
"Under Dr. King’s leadership and vision, we offered an academically infused 8-week, full-day, summer STEM program for children in our community. Students were engaged in many activities such as visiting museums, the planetarium, and zoos, swimming lessons, tennis lessons, fishing, and even engaging in animal dissections. Students visited research laboratories in the Department of Ophthalmology and College of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. King facilitated a Family STEM Night where parents engaged with their children in the engineering design process. Students and families alike were exposed to many opportunities that they otherwise may have never experienced."
Ms. Taylor,
I AM STEM Parent
"I AM STEM Camp has also had a profound impact on my son by fostering his love for science and technology. He has learned so much through the summer program courses that will help him tremendously in middle school, high school, college, and beyond. This camp operates under a safe, healthy, and fun environment filled with positive extracurricular activities. The teachers not only provide constant support to both of my children, but they also have a lot of resources available to help each child grow and foster their individual passions."
Ms. Welch,
I AM STEM Parent
[My daughter] began to exhibit low self-esteem and experience testing anxiety. My husband and I were at a crossroad trying to determine what road to take to get her back on track. Our prayers were answered when Dr. Natalie King and her phenomenal program helped change [my daughter's] mindset. My daughter has participated in her STEM program for approximately six years, which encourages students to be the best that they can be! It incorporates academics, cultural experiences, SAT preparation, career development, college tours, and forging friendships and bonds with peers with the same mindsets. I would recommend I AM STEM Camp to all parents who want their children to succeed.
